Car parking: Parking spaces at the RVI can fill up quickly, so please consider using other ways to get to the hospital, such as the Park and Ride facilities. We have a 'pay on foot' multi-storey car park at the RVI which is easily accessible from Queen Victoria Road.

Public transport: Newcastle’s Central Station is roughly 8 minutes away. There are council-managed pay and display along Queen Victoria Road, Richardson Road and the surrounding area.

OBJECTIVES

Children's Headache Training (CHaT) has been designed to improve knowledge and skills amongst health professionals who care for children and young people with headache. By the end of the course, participants will be able to: 

  • Take a headache-focussed history and undertake a relevant examination
  • Classify headache based on this information alone (reducing reliance on investigation)
  • Learn about pathophysiology of headache
  • Know which elements of the history / examination mandate brain imaging or other tests
  • Diagnose and manage migraine, migraine variants and other primary headache types
  • Diagnose secondary headaches and take initial steps in their management

11.50-12.10 Migraine - pathophysiology and classification (lecture)
12.10-12.25 Periodic syndromes (lecture)
12.25-13.30 Lunch
13.30-14.45 Management of migraine (workshop)
14.45-15.05 Tension-type and short duration headaches (lecture)
15.05-15.25 Tea and coffee break
15.25-15.45 Chronic daily headache (lecture)
15.45-16.45 Management of tension-type and other primary headaches (workshop)
16.45-17.00 Summing up and close (whole group)
