Course Content

Why was this course developed?
This course was developed to enhance clinical learning and provide a comprehensive theoretical background in paediatric neurology in the face of shortened sub-specialty training.  Each unit has been written by experts in the area to provide work based learning, quick and easy accessiblity to the 'best' evidence and a distillation of good practice.  Units are updated every three years.

Course Content
The course covers the whole of paediatric neurology.  The area of paediatric neurology has been divided into twelve 'topics' and the course has a 'Unit' for each topic.  You can either study one Unit or the whole course. 

Who should study this course?

  • Paediatric Neurology trainees:  whole course
  • Consultant Paediatricians: Any individual units of interest to provide continuing professional development.  Many paediatricians are studying Unit 6 (Epilepsy) after completing BPNA courses Paediatric Epilepsy Training levels 1& 2.  Others have studied Unit 2 (Neonatal Neurology), Unit 3 (Development & Learning) and Unit 8 (Inflammation & Infection of the CNS) and Unit 10 (Vision & Hearing).
  • Paediatric trainees: Unit 2 (Neonatal Neurology) and Unit 3 (Development & Learning) are particularly good to complete whilst you are on rotation in neonates and community medicine.  You may also wish to begin Unit 6 (Epilepsy).
  • Sub specialty trainees:  Neonatal trainees have given excellent feedback for Unit 2 (Neonatal neurology).
