A warm invitation from the Newcastle team:

“Alreet lads and lasses!” Welcome to Newcastle upon Tyne for the 41st Annual Conference of the British Paediatric Neurology Association at the ‘Sage Newcastle Gateshead’.

Newcastle
We take great pleasure and pride in inviting you to join us at the BPNA Conference in Newcastle - a vibrant, positive, successful city that has continued to flourish in the post-industrial era.  At its heart, the splendid sandstone Georgian architecture gracefully slopes to the Quayside where a host of bridges spanning the Tyne offer up the contemporary curves of Gateshead’s Sage. Howay man! Newcastle’s a city built on shipbuilding, coal-mining, brown ale, flat caps and football – what more divvint yer want like? Eeeee it’s not pet! It’s all about nights out, Ant and Dec, Cheryl Cole, Viz and Geordie Shore! No, no, no. It’s a gateway to the Northumbrian coast, ancient castles, ruined monasteries and Hadrian’s Wall…Well, whatever you find it to be, we hope you will agree that Newcastle is quite an experience!

Our Programme
Newcastle has an enviable heritage of producing high quality clinical neuroscience and we’ve tapped into this resource to put together a fabulous programme of stimulating, challenging and (hopefully) enlightening keynote lectures, platform presentations, and personal practice sessions. The Ronnie MacKeith lecture will be delivered by the internationally renowned Professor James Barkovich from the University of California, San Francisco and we’ve asked two eminent local luminaries, Professor Sir John Burn and Professor Patrick Chinnery, to challenge our thinking in what promises to be a lively open debate. Of course with all of that intellectual stimulation, you will need a little ‘down time’ and we’ve taken care of that too! Relax with a drink and a waterfront view or enjoy some big band jazz riffs (nice!) as you ‘work the room’ in your pre-dinner mingle…and of course, being Newcastle, there’s always a late night spot for those who feel that sleep is for the faint-hearted!

Child Brain Mile - Thursday 22 January at 7.30am from The Sage
For those who really do like to pack it all in, we shall also be staging the ‘Brain Mile’ fun run along Newcastle quayside incorporating a number of its famous bridges. Runners, seasoned and novice (you can walk a mile!) come along, have fun and raise funds for the research arm of the BPNA, ‘Child Brain Research’.  Donate online at justgiving.com.

BPNA Newcastle conference promises to enthuse and stimulate. I and my colleagues look forward to seeing you at Newcastle in January 2015.

Howay the Toon!
